Our Story
Co-founded by Greg Devine and Alex Fletcher in late 2023, Frontiers On Foot is a young company with ambitious goals.
Greg and Alex met at university in Liverpool in 2010 and quickly bonded over a shared love of rugby, cheesy ’80s music, and the natural world. Swapping stories from their volunteering experiences in South Africa, they became fast friends.
Over the years, life took them in different directions — to different countries and into corporate jobs, far removed from the world of ecology and conservation. But after a long-overdue catch-up, a phone call sparked the beginnings of an idea, a goal, and a mission. That’s when Frontiers On Foot was born.
The inspiration behind our project came from a growing frustration with the state of wildlife volunteering. We saw too many so-called “conservation” programs that were little more than expensive, ethically questionable “voluntourism” with no real impact. One experience stood out in particular — a Big Five volunteer program that turned out to be propping up a canned hunting operation. That’s exactly what we want to change.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to inspire a global network of passionate individuals to safeguard our planet’s future through ethical wildlife conservation.
We know the lack of transparency is a significant put-off for anyone looking for meaningful volunteer work. Volunteering should be rooted in purpose and impact, not vanity projects. While we understand every project has a cost, we believe fees should be accessible, with funding going directly back into the projects and communities themselves.
We are determined to change the narrative, creating a platform where ethical, sustainable, and impactful conservation, in collaboration with passionate local organisations, is the standard, not the exception.
